Fall Chores at Spec

One of the many tasks of owning a lakefront cottage is the twice annual "Dock Day". In the spring this involves putting the Trex and steel structure IN the water; in the fall, it's time to take it back out before the lake freezes. Until about a year or two ago, the dock (or 'wharf', as Dick liked to call it) was a wooden structure that remained in the lake...but of course, needed repair every spring due to the ravages of snow and ice.
Sadly, without Dick able to repair the dock, it became a hazard..and a decision was made to put in a sleek modern dock (see below)

that was designed to be removed before winter. So the job this year both in the Spring and Fall has fallen to candidates possessing 2 strengths..muscle strength and cold water immunity. Brrr....those candidates have been Bill, Craig, Mary, Eric, and Jim...(+ with me helping a little bit last weekend with the not so heavy stuff.) Of course, Dabi manned the soup pot and rewarded us on this oh so blustery day with hot soup and bread when we were done :)
As wonderful as the summer season is when you have a cottage where you can walk out the door and jump into the sparkling blue water within seconds, Spec has it's own beauty in every season...so here are few pictures that show just how gorgeous fall is at Spec Pond.

Here are a couple that I snapped from inside the house...from the porch.

The view directly across from the cottage...
