Camping food...

We ate very well the week we were away. So well in fact, on the long drive home we talked about how many days we need to spend at the gym when we got home just to break even.

While in Maine, every year, we eat foods that we never eat at any other time.
Tradition, I guess. So,so good that they are also very, very bad.
These are foods that we love, but we also very much love the fact that they are eight hours away.
Here they are in order of deliciousness:

1. Morning Glory Bakery Sticky Buns

Yes, they are as incredible as they look. And the campground fed our weakness by having the bakery deliver these sublime creations to them three times during the week we were there. Thanks ALOT.

2. Tea and Popovers at Jordan Pond House

Continuing our fascination for all things "carby", a close second on the deliciousness scale are the Jordan Pond House popovers.

Served hot, with little side bowls of butter and strawberry jam, these airy muffins are incredibly good.

And the bonus that Jordan Pond House provides is also a quintessential Maine experience. You are escorted to Adirondack chairs and tables, set out on a lawn, with beautiful views of the lake and mountains.

3. Third place belongs to the LOBSTERS at Beal's Lobster Pound.

MMMMMMmmmmmmm.
Steamed lobster, with melted butter.
My once a year fix.

4, 5, 6.
Other assorted foods fall into the bottom of this list. Foods we eat rarely other than when we are camping; or ones that are found in Maine only.

Bacon and eggs. Only eaten when we are camping (the bacon, anyway).

S'mores. Only when there are campfires around :)

Pizza that is not homemade..it was raining that night!

Paying an arm and a leg for the most incredible sandwiches...Chicken Curry, Apple and Brie, Baked Tofu with Cilantro Spread. Yum. Also from the above mentioned Morning Glory Bakery.
But the view is free.

Ice Cream, various spots. This one was President Obama's favorite when he and his family visited last summer.

They have really cool flavors, like Chocolate Wasabi

and Lemon Lemongrass Sorbet (my favorite).

And we would be remiss not to mention Ben and Bill's, a Bar Harbor mainstay. Overpriced, but good. They even serve lobster ice cream for the brave among us.
We are not that brave.

Honorable Mention, but most deservedly so, our ice cream stop on the way home.

The. BEST. EVER.
Seriously, it is THAT good.
Worth driving to Massachusetts to get some.

Ok..now that we are all feeling bloated...tomorrow will be pictures from our
hiking and kayak adventures!

I love Kimball Farm ice cream! We used to go there when we were kids, driving home from my Nan's house after a weekend visit. They have the best hot fudge sundaes.

You had a gastronomically delightful week! Pics make everything look scrumptious =]
