This past weekend Jim and I went kayaking with friends to a nearby river that we have paddled down many times before.
We have not, however, paddled it this late in the fall.
The last gasp of autumn was there with colorful foliage, but we also were amazed at how much the color gray is encroaching on the yellows and reds.
Despite the realization of how close winter really is, the gray had a beauty all of it's own too.
The pictures below that I snapped on our paddle need no explanations; just take them in.
Amidst the photos, I have inserted some of my favorite quotes.

One day at a time--this is enough.
Do not look back and grieve over the past for it is gone;
and do not be troubled about the future, for it has not yet come.
Live in the present, and make it so beautiful it will be worth remembering.

Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if
I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking
the successive autumns. ~George Eliot
If we were meant to pop out of bed, we’d all be toasters.
